LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday nullified the appointment of Absar Alam as chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Authority (PEMRA).
Justice Shahid Karim gave the decision on the petition filed by a citizen, Munir Ahmed, who challenged Alam’s appointment.
The LHC had on Nov 29 reserved the verdict on a petition challenging the appointment of senior journalist Absar Alam as Pemra chief.
The petitioner maintained that Alam doesn’t fulfill the criteria of being the head of PEMRA, and is misusing his position by pursuing the agenda of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, adding that the judgments of the Supreme Court barred contractual appointments on permanent posts. Whereas the appointment of Absar Alam was made as acting chairman of Pemra.
The court will give its detailed judgment on the case later.
