PESHAWAR: Many students boycotted their classes and staged a demonstration outside the administration block of Peshawar University on Tuesday.
The students demanded that the university take back the increased in tuition fee. A female student remarked: “The university increases the tuition by 10 percent every year, this is not affordable for all especially the students from middle-class.”
Moreover, they also demanded that scholarship should be provided to the deserving students, government should announce an endowment fund and PhD students should be provided with research grant.
The students also remarked that they are not being provided with many important facilities. They also demanded to be provided with important facilities including hostels for day scholars, along with transport facilities for students living in hostels.
Students who have failed to follow the rules of the university should be investigated, the students added.
After no heed was paid to their demands, the students then moved the protest outside the office of the university’s vice-chancellor.
The university administration agreed to hold talks with the students to call-off the protest, however both the parties failed to reach an agreement.
“We will continue the protest till our demands are met,” said a male student.
