PESHAWAR: The hearing on petition filed by girl —reportedly made to walk naked in her village in DI Khan — started on Tuesday in the high court.

While talking to Geo News, In Search of Justice head said the case has been brought to the Peshawar High Court so that it is pursued without pressure from any quarter of the area the survivor belongs to.

In Search of Justice is a non-profit organisation that is helping the survivor and her family fight the case against the accused.

The petition has been filed through a senior lawyer, Qazi Muhammad Anwar.

The chilling incident took place in Garamat village of DI Khan last month. The 16-year-old girl was returning home after fetching water when she was cornered. According to the survivor, the accused tore her clothes and made her walk the streets of the village. The prime accused, Sajawal, harassed the girl as a revenge.

It is said that around two years back the girl’s brother Sajjad allegedly gifted a cellphone to a female relative of Sajawal. Although the matter was settled by a jirga that settled the matter between the two families and imposed a fine on Sajjad, the girl was made to pay the price.
